SC04: pay-per-use Supercharging
Supercharger access is enabled and billed per session, at the rate shown at each site. This is the code on most Teslas built from 2017 onward.
The $1.99 Factory Report says whether this car can have free Supercharging and how likely it is. No account. If Tesla's factory record for the VIN cannot be read, your $1.99 is refunded automatically.
What it means for a buyer
Nothing to negotiate here. A listing that promises free Supercharging on an SC04 car is describing a promotional credit at best, or is wrong.
How Tesla records supercharging
Almost every car has one of four Supercharging codes. SC04, pay-per-use, is on most cars built from 2017. SC01 is free unlimited Supercharging granted to the car itself: it normally passes to the next private owner, though Tesla can remove it. SC05 is free unlimited Supercharging for the first owner only, granted through a referral or a Tesla promotion: it ends when they sell the car and does not pass to the buyer. SC00 is a car with no Supercharger access at all on Tesla's record; on most cars that means it was switched off later. Tesla's app shows free Supercharging the same way for SC01 and SC05, without saying whether it transfers, and Tesla will not tell a prospective buyer which one a car has. Tesla confirms the current status only to the owner, so ask the seller to show it in their Tesla app before you pay for it. The Factory Report gives Tesla's code where it is known, with its date, and otherwise the odds and one check to ask the seller for.
